Why you must watch <<Emily in Paris>>? Top 5 reasons to watch this Netflix series

The most recently discussed Netflix series – Emily in Paris was premiered on 2nd October 2020. The stars Lily Collins as the main character- Emily Cooper, an American woman from Chicago moving to Paris for a job opportunity. Emily embraces her adventurous new life in Paris around work, friends and romance. I’m not a fan of American series and decided to give it a try due to the high popularity.

The series is relaxed and suitable for watching at home during weekends. One episode is only 30 minutes and it has only 10 episodes. To be honest, I binge watching and finished the whole series in one day.

Below are the top 5 reason you must watch this series:

# The beautiful scenery in Paris

More than 90% of the scene was filmed at Paris. The famous attractions of Paris will always appear in the series such as Eiffel Towel, River Seine, Palais Royal etc. If you are someone who loves to travel like me, this drama can definitely quench your thirst in this epidemic. We can watch Emily appear in different Paris attractions, it makes me feel like I’m in Paris myself.

# Fashion Style

Emily’s fashion style in the series is a great sight. She was nicely dressed every day and I believe this is the dream of every girl. Emily is often seen in branded outfits such as Chanel bag, Zara jacket and Christian Louboutin shoes. There are also some unfamiliar brands which I get to learn from this series, for example, Christian Siriano, Veronica Beard, Stuart Weitzman etc. I hope I’m able to enhance my fashion sense after watching it.

# To understand the French culture

The series demonstrate the French's obsession with food. When Emily complained that her steak did not meet her requirements, the chef insisted that the steak was fine. The series also try to bring out the meaning of perfume to the French. Perfume is like a piece of clothing; it differs according to the person who wears it. Of course, the drama also tried to bring out the other side of Paris such as Emily stepped on dog poo when she walks out of the door or came across others peeing by the river during her morning run. I believe people who have been to Paris will get some resonance.

# To get some idea about French language

I dare not to say that you are about to pick up some French from this series. Emily is an American who does not speak French and she was trying to use some simple French words mixing with English during her learning process. So it was not a good learning subject for you to pick up French in this series. However, what impressed me the most was that nouns have gender in French. For instances, a book in French is masculine - un livre and a table is feminine - une table. This make no sense for us as there’s no gender for nouns in Malay, English nor Chinese.

# To learn about French working behavior

At first, Emily was not able to mingle around her French colleagues because she was not a French speaker and did not understand French culture. But afterwards, she got a kind advice to make her realize that Americans and French have very different attitudes towards work. One of the best quote in the series is “you live to work, we work to live”. French people treat work as only part of their life and will never ever lose their life for work.
