Have you taken a good look at your closet lately? If not, then get off your bed and walk to your closet now. Do you notice that most of your clothes are either black white or nude? If yes, then don’t worry most people have the same colours in their closet.

The reason why people opt for these colours instead of bright colours is because they don’t really know how to choose the right colour that matches their skin tone.

Well, you’re not really trendy if everyone else has the same-coloured clothing as you! So, time to spice things up a little and add a few pops of colour to your closet!

Here’s a guide on how to find the right colours that match your skin tone:

Step 1:

Find out if you have warm or cool undertones.

Look at underside of your wrist. If your veins are blur or purple, then you have cool undertones. If they are green, then you have warm undertones.

Step 2:

The colour of your eyes and of your hair also help you determine the undertones of your skin.

If you have blond, brown, or black hair with blue, green or grey eyes then you most probably have cool undertones. Whereas, if your hair is red, brown, black, or strawberry blond with brown, hazel or amber eyes, then you have warm undertones.

Step 3:

Still not sure about the undertones of your skin? Here are some of the obvious differences between warm and cool undertones.

People with cool undertones usually look good with silver or platinum jewellery. You skin will also turn pink or burn easily under the sun. If you are fair skinned with cool undertones, then you usually don’t tan.

If you have warm tones, then you usually look better in gold jewellery, and you don’t burn under the sun, but you do tan easily.

By now you should be able to identify your undertones, so time to get to the part you’ve all been waiting for. What colours suit your skin and what colours don’t?

The colours that suit people with cool skin undertones are white, black, royal blue, navy blue, grey, red, and silver.

The colours that suit people with warm skin undertones are ivory, yellow, brown, dark green, burnt red, orange, gold, and camel.

One fashion tip is to always brin in different colours to accent your main outfit colour. To find out which colours complement each other well:

1. Look at the colour wheel and find on of the colour that works best with your undertone.

2. Then, look on the opposite side of the wheel to find the colour that complements it.

Or,

2. Look at the colours that are directly on the right or left of your chosen colour. These colours coordinate well with your chosen colour.

Accent colours are best when positioned away from your face. So try using them when picking shoes or bags.
