Recent studies have found that the Omicron variant could potentially trigger several symptoms following its spread throughout the United Kingdom (UK), which can include severe cases of diarrhea.
Even though Omicron is more difficult to identify due to its concomitant symptoms of other seasonal illnesses such as the common cold or flu, the variant still raises other concerns due to its high rate of infection. This is in comparison to previous variant sequences such as Delta , of which their symptoms are generally more easily recognizable such as persistent cough, fever, and loss of taste and smell.
The US-based Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has now released a statement saying COVID-19 patients can exhibit 'various symptoms' such as a slightly blocked nose resulting in difficulty breathing, with both requiring immediate medical attention. However, a string of positive studies showed Omicron was lighter than the other variant sequences, with data revealing the risk of hospitalization was 50 to 70 percent lower than the Delta variant.
That being said, According to the CDC, when a person experiences diarrhea, it may indicate signs that he or she is infected with the Omicron variant, although the symptoms are widely associated with other COVID-19 variant sequences. In short, a person with a compromised immune system is most likely to experience diarrhea and other gastrointestinal symptoms.
Earlier this month, the most common signs of Omicron symptoms are revealed: runny nose, headache, fatigue, sneezing and sore throat. Other symptoms include a hoarse voice, shivering, dizziness, loss of appetite and feeling emotionally sad, apparently.
