Scientific Research recently found that compounds of weed have been proven to be useful in fighting COVID-19, reports News Medical.
This isn't an excuse for you to get high but the researchers found that weed could block the entry of viruses into cells and serves to prevent infection.
The research was published last Monday in the Journal of Natural Products and had already gone through the peer-review process. It shows that two cannabinoid acids-cannabigerolic acid and cannabidinolic acid- can bind to the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein, which blocks one of the most critical steps in the process of the virus infecting people.
In simpler terms, it blocks the virus from having the ability to enter into our cells.
Also, the spike protein is the same drug target used in the COVID-19 vaccines and antibody therapy.
The research was lead by Richard van Breemen, a researcher from the Oregon State Universitys Global Hemp Innovation Center at the Linus Pauling College of Pharmacy and Institute. They collaborated with experts from the Oregon University of Health and Science.
When speaking to the press, van Breemen said the compounds released by weed has a good safety profile in humans.
However, while this could be a promising solution, it definitely won't be the weapon that ends COVID-19 forever. So you will still have to get vaccinated and we still have to follow the SOPS
