Local Activist & Graphic Designer Fahmi Reza Interrogated By Police For Editing Pahang State Coat of Arms

KUALA LUMPUR: Activist and graphic designer, Fahmi Reza, was called to Bukit Aman, today, to assist in the investigation into the editing of an image like the Pahang State coat of arms, with the words 'House of Balak'.

Fahmi reportedly edited the image in his Facebook account which was uploaded on January 3.


Fahmi Reza is is a Malaysian political graphic designer, street artist and documentary film maker. He is mostly known for depicting Malaysias then Prime Minister, Najib Razak, as a clown.


Most of his art posted on his social media sites are satirical interpretations of the political situation in Malaysia. 


The famous House of Balak post was created during the time were the Pahang government was under fire after a sea of timber debris had clogged Sungai Telemong and led to floods and destruction of several villages earlier this month.


After the interrogation with the police, Fahmi posted a photos of himself standing outside the Bukit Aman police station and also posted a summary of 20 questions asked by the police. 



Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director, Datuk Seri Abdul Jalil Hassan, said Fahmi was called to the office of the Classified Criminal Investigation Unit (USJT) of the Prosecution/Legal Division, Criminal Investigation Department (JSJ).

"Currently, USJT is conducting an investigation into the post.


"Investigations are conducted in accordance with Section 4 (1) of the Sedition Act 1948 due to seditious tendencies and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 which is the improper use of network facilities or services," he said in a statement today.


Abdul Jalil said, the public is advised to be smart and prudent social media users and not to use the platform to spread any information that could cause public fear and threaten the harmony of the country.


He said stern action without compromise would be taken against individuals who deliberately threatened public order and safety.
