Dubbed as the "Golden Blood", Rhnull is the rarest blood type in the world, where only 45 known individuals worldwide share this particular blood type— one of whom is a Malaysian woman residing in Terengganu.
The woman has been kind enough to donate her blood, and according to Terengganu blood donor center, her blood would be sent to the National Blood Center, Kuala Lumpur to be frozen and then stored in a nitrogen box at -80 degrees Celsius for a decade. If there are patients in need of the type of blood, then it will be diluted for use.
#Why is the blood considered rare?
According to Discovery.com, Rhnull blood is characterized by a complete lack of antigens in the Rh system, which is the largest blood group system. This criteria does not only make it rare, but it also means it can be accepted by anyone with a rare blood type within the Rh system.
Fascinating, isn't it?
