WATCH: Local Preacher Claims Taekwondo Contains Elements Of Polytheism & Must Not Be Practised

You know how when we were children, our parents used to enrol us in Taekwondo classes so we could learn to defend ourselves and also because it's a good and healthy sport that fosters discipline, self-confidence, and mutual respect. That said, recently, a video went viral on TikTok featuring the views of Dr Jahid Sidek Al-Khalidi, an Islamic scholar and medical expert, regarding the martial art. Originating from Korea, he stated that it cannot be practised by our Muslim friends as it contains elements of polytheism.

He mentioned that an individual informed him about visiting a location in Korea believed to be a major Taekwondo centre. The video claimed that while there, the individual observed elements contradicting Islamic beliefs. According to them, there were worshipping rituals performed by higher-ups not known to the ordinary practitioners of this martial art.

Dr Jahid, also known as Ustaz Jahid, claimed to have treated a woman who was said to have gone 'mad'. Initially, he asked the woman's husband if she practised Silat or Taekwondo. The husband informed him that she did not practice either, but their child had learned Taekwondo. They then went to the couple's house. A sense of unease was believed to have arisen when he entered a room. This feeling intensified as he approached a large cabinet supposedly belonging to the couple's child. When the cabinet was opened, a Taekwondo uniform and two belts were seen. Ustaz Jahid then requested to burn the uniform and belts together, and the wife of the couple was immediately healed.

Ustaz Jahid also mentioned that all self-defence actions such as punches, kicks, and jumps are extraordinary. Although the actions are performed as usual, they can cause an opponent to collapse. In addition to Taekwondo, he also claimed to have been 'attacked' by Silat practitioners for raising a similar issue. This came after he claimed that all martial arts contain servant elements, including Silat.
