A shooting incident unfolded in Petaling Jaya yesterday afternoon, resulting in the death of a suspected criminal. According to witnesses, the chaotic scene began when three vehicles were surrounded in a commercial area, accompanied by loud shouting.
The incident took a dramatic turn when a black car at the front suddenly reversed at high speed, colliding with a red car trapped in the middle. The force of the impact pushed the red car into a pickup truck behind it. As tensions escalated, four gunshots were reportedly heard. A video clip circulating online shows someone opening the back door of the red car just moments before the shots rang out, adding to the confusion.
According to Bernama, Subang Jaya district police chief ACP Wan Azlan Wan Mamat confirmed the shooting incident, stating that further details would be provided by Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan. It is believed that a foreigner, suspected of criminal activity, was shot dead during the altercation.
Police investigations revealed that the suspect had been under surveillance since 2018. According to Bukit Aman CID director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain, the suspect was part of a larger robbery gang linked to dozens of cases within Selangor and Kuala Lumpur. The police, working with counterparts in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, coordinated the operation that led to the shooting.
According to TheStar, during the incident, the suspect was ordered to stop but instead fired two shots at the police, hitting a patrol car. The suspect believed to be in his late 30s to early 40s, had been in the country for some time.
Comm Shuhaily also mentioned that the gang is believed to have around 10 members, though the exact number is uncertain. Police are monitoring all exit points in the country to prevent their escape.
The gang's modus operandi involved offering services online, such as selling jewelry or money changing, to lure victims. They would meet the victims at a hotel before taking them to another location, where other gang members would join to rob the victims.
