A 14-year-old female secondary school student tragically died after falling from the eighth floor of her school building on Monday (Nov 18) afternoon, according to the Malay-language daily Sinar Harian.
Northeast District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Rozak Muhammad confirmed the incident in a media statement on Tuesday (Nov 19).
"The police received a report from a medical officer at Penang Hospital at 5.57 pm regarding a Form Two student who had fallen from the school building. The victim was confirmed dead at the scene," he said.
Initial investigations revealed no signs of foul play. "Examinations at the scene and on the victim's body found no criminal elements. The case has been classified as sudden death," ACP Abdul Rozak stated.
A sudden death report has been opened to facilitate further investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The police have also advised the public to refrain from speculation that might hinder the investigation process. Additionally, ACP Abdul Rozak urged members of the public not to share photos or videos of the incident to respect the privacy and grief of the victim's family.
