A 15-year-old Thai boy endured severe injuries following an assault by a group of teenagers in the Isaan province of Udon Thani, allegedly triggered by his appearance, described as "too handsome."
Residents of Ban Nong Kanon Simma, situated in the Ban Dung district of Udon Thani, urged local law enforcement to take action against the group of teenagers, aged between 12 and 16, responsible for the physical attack on 15-year-old Mooyong.
Mooyong was admitted to Bandung Crown Prince Hospital on the evening of February 11, where he remained unconscious for two days due to the gravity of the assault. After recovering, Mooyong recounted the incident to Channel 3 on February 14.
According to Mooyong, he and four friends visited a barbershop that day and encountered a gang of four teenagers on their way. The gang insisted they halt their motorcycles and initiated a confrontation, citing their envy of Mooyong's good looks as the reason for their aggression.
Mooyong disclosed that the rival gang brandished two guns, leaving him unable to defend himself. During the altercation, a 16-year-old gang member named Bas delivered a blow to Mooyong's neck, causing him to lose consciousness at the scene. Mooyong's companion rushed him to the hospital on a motorcycle.
Due to the urgency of his friends, Mooyong's foot was inadvertently dragged along the route to the hospital, resulting in an additional injury.
Residents of Ban Nong Kanon Simma informed Channel 3 that the teenage gang responsible for the assault hailed from various communities in the neighbouring province of Sakon Nakhon. They revealed that Mooyong was not the first victim; the same teenage suspects had shot another victim the previous month, but no arrests or progress had been made in that case.
Boonhome Jankhiao, the leader of Ban Nong Kanon Simma, expressed his opinion that the teenagers may have imitated the actions of teenage murderers who killed a Thai woman in Sa Kaeo province. He believes that lenient punishments for young criminals serve as an encouragement for them to commit crimes.
As of now, there has been no response from the local police officers or administrative authorities regarding the case.
