A viral video depicting what appeared to be a kidnapping involving several individuals, including children, in the Jalan Zamrud Utama area of Kajang has been confirmed as untrue by the authorities.
Kajang District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abd Yusof, addressed the issue in a statement after the 1-minute 34-second video began trending on TikTok earlier yesterday. The video shared widely on social media, claimed to show a kidnapping incident in the area at approximately 10:30 a.m.
Following an investigation, Naazron clarified that no police reports have been filed regarding the purported incident. "Our findings indicate that no formal complaints have been made by any party related to this matter," he said.
He also noted that witnesses at the scene reported hearing one of the individuals involved, believed to be the husband, stating that others should not interfere in their domestic matters before leaving the area with his partner.
"Steps have been taken to identify the vehicle owner and the individuals involved. Investigations are ongoing to ascertain the true nature of the incident," Naazron added.
Despite the video's alarming nature, authorities have dismissed claims that it depicted a kidnapping. "Based on the information we have gathered thus far, there is no evidence to support the allegations circulating on social media," Naazron said.
The police urged anyone with relevant information to come forward and assist with the investigation. Members of the public can contact their nearest police station or reach out directly to Investigating Officer Inspector Suresh at 017-4333795.
Naazron also cautioned the public against spreading unfounded claims that could incite unnecessary concern. "We remind everyone to refrain from making baseless comments that could cause public unrest," he emphasized.
The video, which quickly garnered significant attention online, underscores the need for caution and verification before sharing potentially misleading content on social media.
