Early this morning, a Western restaurant in the town of Kepong experienced an explosion and fire. Fortunately, the fire did not spread to other units, and there were no reported casualties.
Per the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage shared by Kepong Member of Parliament Lim Lip Eng, the explosion occurred today at 2:43 am. The restaurant appeared normal before the incident occurred.
However, about 30 seconds into the video, flames suddenly ignited, leading to an explosion that shattered the glass windows of the entire building. Netizens indicated that the explosion originated from the restaurant's kitchen.
MP Lim Lip Eng's assistant, Lai Chun Kwon, indicated that the preliminary investigation suggests a liquefied petroleum gas explosion may have caused the incident. But, the exact circumstances surrounding the explosion remain unclear.
"The fire department wrapped up around 8 a.m. this morning, and there were no casualties," he said.
He pointed out that the Western restaurant is located upstairs from a mixed vegetable rice stall, with only that unit affected. Additionally, he noted that after the fire department left, they arranged for cleaners to clear the glass shards scattered around the scene.
