It's a vice that a fair number of people are guilty of caving into. Be it smoking a cigarette or a vape, it's no doubt how harmful these products can be to our systems. However, when intoxicating substances are added to the mixture, it can prove to be a very deadly addiction.
In a recent TikTok video, Thiban Subramaniam, a former PKR youth leader has demanded for swift action to be taken against those who have been apparently selling vape liquids that contain harmful drugs which he claims has lead to over 10 deaths within Kuala Selangor.
The now deleted 5:43 second video showcased himself and another man, introduced as Ravi, and goes on to explain that the selling of the apparent vape liquid has become a menace, with its victims being some as as young as 14 years old, as well as Ravi's 19-year-old son who recently passed because of the liquid.
He continues that most of these vape liquids were supposedly laced with a drug commonly know as magic mushrooms and were being sold between RM3 to RM10. And while it has been open knowledge that these have been sold in the public market, he chastised the authorities for their lack of action.
"We lost another youth from Kuala Selangor because of the actions of those irresponsible, who took bribes (and allowed the selling of the drugs)"
"I think everyone in Kuala Selangor is well aware of this menace, I have met with teachers and officers but till this day, no action has been taken"
"(As a result) today, a father had lost his son," he said.
Thiban went on to state that upon knowing about his sons addiction, Ravi had sent his son to stay with his relative in Johor. Soon after however, the 19-year-old went into depression, unfortunately committing suicide soon after.
Ravi further went on to claim that his son had been able to purchase the drug-laced liquid at a barber shop.
"He can't stay at home, he can't work, cannot read, he can't do anything after taking the drugs"
"He seems high, he gets angry suddenly, gets into fights, and destroys home equipment and other things"
"I came to know that he commonly goes to the shop to buy the stuff (drug-laced vape liquid)," he said, and that his report against the dealer was made but no further action has been taken.
Although the video with these claims had been taken down, it has been downloaded by other parties, making their rounds on most social media platforms. However it is unknown when the initial video had been posted.
According to The New Straits Times, the state police chief has been reached out to and shall be releasing a statement on the investigation soon.
