After 68-year-old Abdul Aziz Rashid lost his second child Neti Anita, 43 to the deathly virus, he was determined to become a volunteer for the Vaccination Program to help save the lives of people.
While it one of the hardest moments in his life, losing his beloved daughter, he volunteers at the program regularly energetically every day.
The exhaustion after a long day of driving his van does not stop him from volunteering at the Community Vaccine Mobilization Program (MOVAK) at State Legislative Assembly Development and Coordination Committee Hall (JAPERUN) Ayer Limau, Lubok Cina.
His daughter passed away on the 23rd of July after getting treatment for two days at Hospital Melaka. She had an existing heart disease and when she was infected with the virus, she could not hold on for long. She passed three days after getting infected.
She was put into a coma on the 22nd of July, and the next day, he received a call from the doctor informing him about the tragic news.
Abdul Aziz Rashid first lost his 1st wife to a heart attack in 1999, followed by his eldest daughter to cervical cancer in 2017.
He is now left without a child as his marriage to his second wife Rohayati Mohd Jan, 56, is without child.
Now, he finds that helping people get vaccinated, makes him stronger and helps him deal with the pain and sadness that he’s going through. He also said that joining the program gives him the satisfaction of knowing that he is helping other people.
The loss of Neti Anita is like a dream because she left him too quickly. He did not imagine that the last time he spoke to her over a video call assisted by the doctor, where he apologized for any wrongdoings, he had done against her, would be his last.
