With Halloween just around the corner, it's time again for some ghostly tales from the crypt keeper. Here, we dig into two of the creepiest urban legends from Malaysia and right across the causeway. From an ordinary working man's near-death encounter with a blood-sucking 'Pontianak' to a young mother's race against time to save her precious unborn child from the unknown, these dark tales of gore are enough to give you Freddy Kruger-style vivid nightmares for life. But, they are merely the tip of the iceberg since there is more to come in the second part:

The Night Passenger From Ulu Klang

Set during the mid-90s when Jaring was the only internet service provider in Malaysia, a hardworking taxi driver was working the graveyard shift along the streets of Ulu Klang when he spotted a young woman by the roadside. She was pretty but had an otherworldly aura.

Seeing that, the taxi driver hesitated to pick her up. However, the taxi driver stopped and let the young woman enter his car after she flashed him a crisp 100 ringgit note. She told the driver to keep driving ahead until further notice.

Throughout the journey, the taxi driver felt slightly sick since he could not withstand the young woman's strong frangipani flower perfume. Suddenly, the taxi driver felt a light tap on his shoulder to indicate him to stop. Realizing where he had just arrived, the taxi driver became scared and foolishly turned his back to look behind.

To his horror, the sweet young thing has become a ghastly-looking 'Pontianak' complete with blood-red eyes and razor-sharp fingernails. The foul creature stared diabolically at her victim and let out a blood-curdling shriek before it flew off like a giant demonic bird to disappear into the night's darkness.

Surprisingly, the taxi driver lived to tell his ordeal since he merely fainted. Over the years, that particular area witnessed many paranormal sightings. But the story of the taxi driver and his night passenger has left many pondering about the afterlife, especially those who have died a violent karmic death like the unlucky victims of the 1993 Highlands Tower building collapse!

The Guardian of Kaki Bukit, Singapore

The Nenek Kebayan is a powerful witch-like creature with a hunchback who has long white hair and walks around aided by a stick. She is said to live in the deep end of the forests or mountains, far away from human civilization. Some say she practices white magic, while many say she uses the dark occult for pure mischief and mayhem. But parents of young kids fear Nenek Kebayan the most because she enjoys kidnapping kids so that she can feast on their raw flesh and blood afterward.

In a spine-tingling tale retold by Eugene Tay, a Singaporean resident miscarriages twice due to living on a residential property built on sacred burial grounds. The individual's house also faced a hill that led to an old mosque.

The individual said everything was going well with her first pregnancy until a strange old woman appeared at her doorstep which she then invited the old lady in. The old lady creepily put her witch-like hands on the pregnant individual's belly and mumbled something weird and gibberish to the unborn fetus. Feeling creeped out by the old lady's actions, the individual deliberately excused herself to make coffee, and when she came back, the old lady had already left.

Later that night, the individual woke up with an excruciating pain in her stomach. On top of that, she was bleeding heavily non-stop. Her panicked mother called for an ambulance, and it was too late when they reached the hospital.

After the harrowing ordeal, the individual did not see the strange old lady's return for some time. However, the 'thing' returned with a vengeance during the individual's second pregnancy the following year. This time, the individual has learned her lesson and quickly shuts the door on the wicked old hag while her mother recites The Exorcist-like prayers. The older woman bravely looked at the old hag through the door peephole. To her horror, she saw a hellish-looking monstrous creature that could even rival the looks of Satan.

Without a doubt, the younger woman lost her baby for the second time after the creature's return. However, God will always protect his loyal subjects, especially the weak and vulnerable. Due to that, the woman became pregnant again and finally gave birth to her beautiful bundle of joy. Since then, the woman and her family have moved out from that cursed building, and we would like to assume the 'thing' that terrorized them much earlier is also gone for good forever!
