As part of the Aidilfitri festival, express bus tickets in the economy category will rise by 10% from April 4 to April 17, reported by the Land Public Transport Agency (Apad).
In a statement, Apad claimed that the Cabinet had approved an RM0.009 per kilometer festive season surcharge, raising the category's existing taxes to RM0.102 per km from RM0.093 per km. This was reported by Free Malaysia Today.
In regards to Hari Raya, which is scheduled on April 10 and 11, Apad also stated that applications for temporary operator licenses for express bus services are now being accepted.
Applications are accepted from March 11 to April 2, and the licenses granted are only valid from April 4 to April 17. This is to make sure there are enough express buses to handle the extra people who will be traveling back to their hometowns during the holiday season.
"Only economic services are eligible for applications," the statement claimed. It went on to say that express buses and stage buses that are over the age restriction and have been authorized by the Puspakom VR1 Special Report (Code 9009) are also eligible to apply. Applications can be submitted at road transport department (JPJ) counters and all regional Apad offices.
