A mischevious elephant that had fallen into a sewer at Batu 13, Jalan Raya Timur-Barat on Sunday was successfully rescued by the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (PERHILITAN) in a touching rescue operation in Kelantan.
Eight committed members of the PERHILITAN team from Jeli District spearheaded the effort, which attracted a lot of attention after a video of the rescue was posted on the Facebook page of the Peninsular Malaysia Department of Wildlife and National Parks.
The video demonstrated the careful process by which the baby elephant was pulled safely out of the drain using a rope fastened to an excavator.
However, what touched most netizens was the fact that while the operation was taking place, the mother remained calm throughout!
Seen patiently waiting by her calf’s side was most definitely heartwarming.
The mother and young elephant were seen safely returned to a neighbouring jungle after the rescue, which brought even more joy to those who watched.
How cute!
