The Malaysian Fire and Rescue department have recently stated that over the course of this year, they have received 38 public complaints regarding the use of their name by scammers.
In a statement made by the department today, they revealed that these schemes would usually involve procurement offers of products, as well as forgeries of food order letters, utilizing the chief of the station or the state fire department director. Urging the public to lodge police reports for further investigation, the department reassured the public that this was a situation they are taking extremely seriously.
"The scams reported include offers of supply tenders relating to cooked food, raw ingredients, tyres and engine oil for vehicles and machinery, and fake food order letters, using the name of the station chief or state fire department director"
"The department would like to advise the public to not be deceived by such offers of supply contracts, especially direct procurement, using the departments name. We have taken note of the scams using the departments name as reported by the media and have handed it completely to the police for further investigation."
"As a precautionary measure, those who are contacted by certain individuals with various offers using the departments name can refer to any state fire department headquarters or the related fire stations to obtain confirmation before taking any action. " the department had stated.
So far, it has been revealed that while Sabah had received the most amount cases at 13, Johor has seen 7 cases, as well as 5 cases in Terengganu, and a further 3 each from Labuan, Pahang and Selangor.
