Losing a beloved pet while under someone else's care is every owner's nightmare, and this became a reality for Mita.
On 5 November, Mita entrusted her British Shorthair cat, Sara, to a pet sitter in Putrajaya before leaving for a two-week trip.
Upon contacting the pet sitter on 17 November, Mita was shocked to learn that Sara had gone missing, allegedly escaping through an open window.
Despite a search, the cat was nowhere to be found, and the sitter promised to inform the local community.
Devastated, Mita spent the day in tears while her husband asked for partial compensation, promising to return it if Sara was found.
The sitter avoided meeting them, citing personal reasons, yet was posting new pet-sitting ads instead of searching for Sara.
Mita and her loved ones searched tirelessly in Putrajaya for two days with the help of kind strangers, but Sara remains missing.
Netizens accused the sitter of possibly selling the cat due to her evasive responses and criticised her for not immediately informing Mita of the disappearance.
The incident sparked discussions about the limits of microchips, which only aid identification once a pet is found, unlike GPS trackers that provide real-time locations.
While many hope for Sara'a safe return, others urged pet owners to use reputable pet hotels with CCTV for added security.
