Three corrupt policemen have been arrested over suspicions of extorting money from a car sales agent, yesterday.
According to the Ampang Jaya District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Farouk Eshak said the extortion incident happened at 11.30 AM at Persiaran Pandan Prima, Dataran Pandan Prima, last Tuesday.
The victim is a 30-year-old man working as a vehicle sales agent who happened to be arrested while driving by the two members of the Motorcycle Patrol Unit (URB).
"One of the suspects then made an inspection before claiming that the victim committed the offense of possession of certain documents, then asked for a sum of cash if he wanted him to keep it under the rug," Farouq Ishak said in a statement.
The victim was forced to hand over the requested amount of money in cash, in addition to making an online transfer to a bank account belonging to one unidentified individual before lodging a police report.
The investigation led to the arrest of three policemen in their 30s and 40s believed to have been on duty at the Ampang Police Station at 2 PM yesterday and are now on remand for four days, starting today.
Efforts to track down suspects who are still at large, especially the bank account owner, are still ongoing. The case is being investigated under Section 384 of the Penal Code for extortion.
