The latest iPhone 16 model is now available in Malaysia, especially with the opening of the country's first Apple Store. As usual, stories of "regret" after purchasing the newest smartphone model have surfaced on social media. Recently, in a post on X.com by @meinmokhtar, a young woman admitted that she would rather have her boyfriend buy her the iPhone 16, even though she could afford it herself.

"Mein, please ask for opinions from all your followers. Is it selfish of me if I can easily afford to pay for the new iPhone 16 in one-off cash because I don't have many commitments, but I still want my boyfriend to buy it for me?" she asked.
It's understood that the boyfriend can only afford to pay for the phone in 36 monthly instalments. While the specific model wasn't mentioned, the base price for the iPhone 16 starts at RM3,999, which means he would need to pay RM111 per month for three years. If he were to buy the RM4,499 model, the monthly payment would be RM124, and for the highest storage model priced at RM5,499, the monthly payment would be RM152.75 over 36 months.
Many netizens reacted to the post, with several urging the boyfriend to break up with the woman due to her apparent lack of empathy. Some criticized her for being a "gold digger," pointing out that despite only being in a relatively new relationship, she was already asking for expensive gifts worth thousands of ringgit.
