Based on reports , Lithuanian street artist Ernest Zacharevic, known for the famous 'Children on a Bicycle' mural on Armenian Street, is taking legal action against AirAsia for using his artwork without permission.
Zacharevic revealed that two months ago, he discovered a video of an AirAsia aircraft featuring his mural on its livery. He expressed disappointment, saying this was not the first time the airline had used his work without authorization.
"Over the years, my mural has appeared in AirAsia's email campaigns, advertisements, in-flight magazines, banners, and more, all without my consent," he said. Despite his formal requests for them to stop, unauthorized use has continued.
Zacharevic emphasized that this issue goes beyond his personal experience, warning it sets a harmful precedent for artists.
"This behavior undermines intellectual property rights and sends the message that artists' work can be taken freely. Its a blow not only to me but to the entire artistic community," he added.
The artist tried to resolve the matter amicably, but said AirAsia's response has been disappointing. "They issued corporate statements denying past infringements and made an offer that doesn't reflect the value of my work," he explained.
Left with no other option, Zacharevic has decided to take the matter to court. He thanked his legal team, the Malaysian public, and the media for their support.
"This fight is not just for me but for all artists. Creative work deserves respect and protection," he said.
