Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that the repatriation of tertiary students was scheduled to resume on May 28 at first will be resumed 2 days earlier on May 26, to allow more students to return home in time to spend the Raya celebration with their families.
The announcement of the suspension of the repatriation of tertiary students yesterday, which mentioned the process of sending students will be resumed on May 28 has caused many parents and students to request the government to accelerate the repatriation plan so that students can return to their hometowns for Raya celebration.
According to Sinchew,
"We have repatriated more than 50,000 students back to their hometown, but there are still about 7,000 students trapped in the university. We are still concerned about the eagerness of these students to return home."
He said that the Ministry of Higher Education reached an agreement after negotiating with the airline, and finally agreed to resume the repatriation plan on the 26th.
Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob added that these students who are returning home have also been tested for COVID-19 before they leave.
