So, #ICYMI, on Feb. 18th, the Perseverance rover by NASA successfully landed on the red planet.
It's another huge milestone for the entire world, given how it's not an easy feat. So, kudos to the team!
We've been enjoying the cool shots that Perseverance has been sending us so far.

However, hear this! Perseverance didn't touchdown alone on that day.
On board was around 11 million other people from 250 countries/territories!
Or, at least it was their names on three fingernail-sized silicon chips that the robot packed along for the trip.
But, question: who are these folks?
Well, they're just regular world citizens like you & me. Only, they had submitted their application on NASA's 'Send Your Name To Mars' website before the mission.

So, those names were etched onto a plate- less than 1 micron across- with an electron beam. That's smaller than a human hair. That explains why we don't see it with our naked eyes.
You can still see the plates on its beams via the camera.

Perseverance is not the first to do this. Before, we had InSight landing in 2018 with around 2.5 million names.
