Yes yes, the past 2 years were pretty tough.. We had to live through a pandemic, we were stuck in our homes bla bla bla, let’s stop the negativity and look on the bright side.
We actually got a few perks during the pandemic and one perk that has honestly saved us a lot of RM1s is the RM1 interbank cash withdrawal charge waiver. It has been over a year since local banks waived the RM1 for interbank ATM withdrawals.
We remember it like it was yesterday. There we sat on the couch, stuck at home with our families, watching the news to find out if tomorrow might be the day we would release from the confines of our homes when we heard the good news.
The good news that made our day a little better. The good news that sparked a little hope in our hopeless lives.
It was April 2022, and it was announced that for a temporary period, we will not be charged RM1 when withdrawing money from an ATM that doesn’t belong to out bank.
For more than a year it was freedom, Maybank users withdrew money from CIMB and CIMB users withdrew money from Ambank, and the list goes on and on..
But now, it is all coming to an end. No more freedom of withdrawing money!
While not all the banks have made the announcement, we are pretty sure they will soon follow the footsteps on Citibank and KFH.
Just recently, these two banks announced that starting in February 2022, the RM1 charge when withdrawing from different bank ATMs will be reinstated.
Let's take a moment of silence for all the RM1 that will be lost in the future.
*This article will be updated as more banks announce the reinstatement of the RM1 charge.
