Pregnant Woman Hammered Herself With A Nail In The Head For Fear That Her Husband Might Leave Her
A pregnant woman in Peshawar, Pakistan made quite a scene when she showed up at a local hospital with a nail hammered into her head, alleged to be a consequence of a specific instruction from faith healer who claimed the ritual would guarantee the birth of a male child.
It is a common belief in South Asia that male offsprings are typically held in higher honors and degrees than that of any female offspring. According to the health professionals who treated the woman, she was bleeding when she first arrived at the hospital and had to be given emergency aid before being referred to the operation theatre.
"She said that a woman in her locality did the same [hammered a nail] and gave birth to a boy even though the ultrasound had shown her unborn child to be a girl," according to one of the doctors. They have also informed that the nail was penetrated deep into her skull.
Initial investigation showed that the victim is a mother to three daughters and that her husband had allegedly threatened to leave her if their next child turns out to be another daughter, which is why she tried to seek the help fo a faith healer, against her better judgment.
"She is three months pregnant and because of her husband's fear she went to the faith healer who gave her taweez, things to recite, and the nail," one hospital staff said. "The victim then returned home and hammered the nail in her head. She was discovered by family members after she screamed in pain and was shifted to the hospital."
We wish the pregnant lady a speedy recovery.
