Good news for durian and nature lovers in Penang! You will be able to tapau your favorite king of fruit from roadside stalls and visit the nearest recreational park starting June 4 and 6 respectively!
RECREATIONAL PARKS SET TO REOPEN
Penang Chief Minister YB Chow Kon Yeow announced on Tuesday (June 2) that the state is set to reopen its recreational parks, including Penang Municipal Park (Youth Park), Relau Metropolitan Park, Penang Botanic Gardens, Bukit Jambul area, Penang Hill hiking trail (final stop) as well as Jalan Jeep.
Meaning, the road from the Penang Botanic Gardens to Penang Hill will be opened, but only for pedestrians.
Penangites, can’t wait to get closer to nature already? Good! You can go to the parks as early as 7 am and stay there for 12 hours before they close at 7 pm. *wink wink*
And remember, being early is the key because only 200 visitors allowed to enter each park at a time, except for the Relau Metropolitan Park which only 50 visitors allowed entrance each time.
And as usual, all visitors must scan the PG Care QR Code before entering.
FOREST RESERVES REMAIN CLOSED
Although many parks in Penang are going to reopen, forest reserves including Bukit Mertajam Recreational Forest, Teluk Bahang Recreational Park, Air Hitam Dalam Educational Forest, and Bukit Juru Forest Reserve will remain close. So do Penang National Park and the dams of Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP).

NO DINING-IN AT DURIAN STALLS
As part of the Penang Gradual Recovery Strategy (PGRS), durian traders will be allowed to sell durian for takeaway starting Thursday (June 4), according to YB Chow. The sellers are requested to follow the SOPs set by the local government strictly.
Well, as much as we are excited to walk into nature or enjoy durian again, remember, the SOPs MUST be followed, okay? *wink*
