Ashraf, in his appeal, asked the court to give him a lighter fine as he had repented and regretted his act.  Apart from that, he also mentioned he had just gotten married and recently acquired a job with a salary of around RM1,000 a month, and that he now currently lives with his mentally-ill mother in law who requires constant care.

He was then punished with a fine of RM4,500 or 12 months in jail should he fail to pay, which he did.
