Based on reports, it would appear that Netflix would be introducing ads to their streaming platform.
After losing 200,000 consumers in the first quarter of the year, and a predicted 2 million from the current quarter, they plan on putting a stop to Netflix account password sharing, which has allowed many to stream free.
About a 100 million households around the world have been streaming free, and according to CEO Reed Hastings, the company intends to find a way to make this group of people pay.
Despite their previous reluctance on putting ads on the platform, they have announced introducing an ad-supported option (in a year or two), for those who are tolerant of advertisements, and want to pay at a lower price.
Besides ads, the company also tested out the no-password sharing in a few countries and one of the features were "Add an Extra Member" for those on Standard and Premium plans.
With this, users could add sub-accounts for up to two people they don't live with. Each sub-account would have its own profile, login password, and personalized recommendations.
Another feature was the "Transfer Profile to a New Account". Basic, Standard, and Premium members could enable people who share their accounts to transfer profile information to either a new, or sub-account.
