Batik and Star Wars? Well, yes apparently they do go together!
Haris Rashid, a Malaysian artist, has managed to combine the two to create a unique masterpiece.
The 32-year-old Kuala Lumpur-based full-time painter accepted a unique request to produce a Star Wars-themed batik, fusing Malaysia's cherished traditional art style with iconic sci-fi themes.
The client expressly asked for a batik piece with a Star Wars theme when Haris was contacted for this project.
Haris had a vision from the beginning. He was certain that he wanted to concentrate on the original Star Wars characters, the ones that fans can recognize right away.
"The challenge was to make it abstract to merge with typical batik aesthetics and the whole batik has an evil versus good theme, set in the vast galaxy as the background," he says.
Haris produced something both nostalgic and novel by fusing sci-fi elements with traditional motifs.
The final piece features a dramatic duel between Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader, set against a beautiful cosmic backdrop.
