A 29-year-old woman was arrested at a house in Simpang Empat on February 2 following an investigation by the Kangar Police Headquarters (IPD) into an abandoned newborn baby case.
According to Berita Harian, the woman has been remanded until February 5 to assist with the investigation after a baby girl was discovered at a restaurant in Sanglang on January 19.
Kangar District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Yusharifuddin Mohd Yusop, revealed that authorities received a report about a newborn baby found inside a paper bag on a table at a home-style coffee shop. The discovery was initially reported by Sinchew Daily.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the woman admitted to her involvement in the incident. Police also seized several items linked to the case, including a mobile phone, a SIM card, scissors, bed sheets, and a placenta that the suspect had allegedly burned.
Further investigations uncovered that the woman gave birth alone in the bathroom of a house on Jalan Tok Pulau, Kampung Permatang Kersek, on January 18 at approximately 6:30 PM. Roughly 10 hours later, she drove a yellow Perodua Myvi, borrowed from a friend to a restaurant in Kampung Rama, Sanglang, where she abandoned the newborn.
Authorities have confirmed that the baby girl is in stable condition and is currently receiving medical care at Tuanku Fauziah Hospital (HTF) in Kangar. The child has since been placed under the care of the state's Department of Social Welfare (JKM) while investigations continue.
