This movie shaped our entire childhood!
Did someone say 20? Yep, POTC turns 20 and boy do we feel ancient...
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl was one of the biggest blockbusters which then led to one of the biggest franchises out there to be made.
It was 20 years ago when we experienced it, and here are 12 fun facts we believe you should know.
Check it out!
#1 Michael Keaton, Jim Carrey, and Christopher Walken were also considered for the role of Captain Jack Sparrow.
#2 Depp was smeared in charcoal to cover up his tattoos for the role.
#3 Depp also lost so many hats overboard during filming that they started making them out of rubber so that they'd float.
#4 Jude Law, Ewan McGregor, Tobey Maguire, Christian Bale and Heath Ledger were all considered for the role of Will Turner.
#5 Captain Barbossa was offered to Robert DeNiro, but he declined.
#6 Amanda Bynes, Jessica Alba, and Jaimie Alexander were considered before Keira Knightley for Elizabeth Swann.
#7 Knightley was only 17 during filming so her mother travelled with her to all shooting locations.
#8 Originally, Depp wanted Jack to have no nose. He lost it in a sword fight but it was sewn back on. Due to bad circulation, it was now blue and Jack would be terrified of pepper. But the idea was rejected.
#9 Keira Knightly actually had her tits painted on her to make them more evident (old Hollywood skill of "bosom make-up").
#10 The pistol that Jack used wasn't a prop, but a real handgun crafted in London as far back as 1760. The production team bought it from an antique dealer based in Connecticut.
#11 There's a very subtle nod to Disney. During the Black Pearl's siege of the town, the smoke from the last cannon shot billows into a Mickey Mouse head shape.
#12 The premiere was at Disneyworld, the first film to do so. On a budget of $140m, the film grossed $654.3m. It was a huge hit, and the 4th-highest grossing film of the year.
A time when the trajectory of life was changed, savvy? Happy 20 years POTC!
