A lady entered the men's prayer section at Masjid Jamek Ar-Rahman in Batu Ferringhi earlier this month, causing an incident that went viral.
The muezzin and imam's sounds were reportedly compared to "barking dogs" and "discordant devils" by the woman during the event, according to reports.
Ismail Din, the head of the Masjid Jamek Ar-Rahman committee, filed a police report after the video of the event on March 12 went viral on social media, according to Berita Harian.
In response to internet concerns, Ismail has urged patience as the police investigate.
"I'm hoping that the event that happened at this mosque a few days back won't lead the public to act independently. In addition to us being contacted by the woman's relatives, a police report has been filed. Therefore, we are handing this over to the police so they may take further action," he was reported as saying in the New Straits Times.
Ismail said that while the lady had made similar accusations before, they had chosen to file a police case after seeing the video go viral in order to stop future occurrences of the same kind.
Ismail stated that the woman had previously complained in writing to the mosque's administration about the azan keeping her from sleeping.
After that, the management made sure the neighbors weren't bothered by the loudspeakers.
Since then, the mosque has been contacted by the woman's sister. She asserted that since returning from her trip overseas, her sister has been struggling with mental health concerns.
"The woman stated that her sister was formerly pious and frequently provided sponsorship for people to undertake the Umrah. After moving to London, she experienced mental health problems when she got back home, according to Ismail.
Additionally, he emphasized that attempts are being made to resolve the matter through communication.
"We're going to have a meeting so she can make amends and provide an apology to everyone. "Let the authorities handle this matter; we understand that she is 'unwell' and do not want it to escalate," he added.
ACP Razlam Ab Hamid, the head of police in the Northeast, has acknowledged receiving the information and announced that an investigation is still underway by Section 298A of the Penal Code which makes the insult of any religion a criminal offense, though these provisions are mainly used against those deemed to have wounded Islam.
