Based on recent reports, Selangor is leveling up when it comes to concerts, so you better watch out!
The Selangor government is considering implementing urine screenings as part of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for concert attendees, following the deaths of four individuals at a New Years Eve event in Petaling Jaya.
State Local Government and Tourism Committee chairperson said the proposal will be discussed as part of enhanced guidelines aimed at ensuring public safety during concerts.
“Previously, when I attended a Kitaro concert at Genting Highlands, everything was thoroughly checked, including by scanning machines. Even our wallets had to be emptied.
“So, moving forward, we might need to conduct urine tests as part of the SOP for visitors, to ensure individuals who abuse drugs or are addicts are not allowed to enter concert venues”, he added.
He also noted that SOPs for organising concerts in Selangor will be reviewed and strengthened, including the potential use of scanning equipment to detect and prevent prohibited items from being brought into venues.
The proposal comes after police revealed that the individuals who died at the Pinkfish Countdown event were believed to have consumed drugs.
In response to the incident, Selangor police have temporarily suspended the issuance of concert permits.
Ng also confirmed that a concert initially planned to take place in Bandar Sunway next week has been relocated to Kuala Lumpur.
