MPH Bookstores | Reason Behind Multiple Closures in Malaysia
According to the
New Straits Times, MPH Group (M) Sdn Bhd is transforming its business model. MPH Group is turning MPH Bookstores into e-commerce, which was already implemented last year. However, the company would maintain its stores in key locations.
There is a significant increase in sales of MPHOnline.com since the consumer buying behavior is changing rapidly, especially during the Movement Control Order (MCO).
"We want to be able to connect with our customers through multiple
touchpoints, be it online or offline by adopting an omnichannel
approach," MPH Group chief executive officer Donald Kee said.
"The upgrading of our online store MPHONLINE.COM which is currently
underway and expected to be relaunched in the fourth-quarter of 2020,
will have all these omnichannel features in place, enabling customers
to have a seamless shopping experience," he said in a statement.
He further mentioned MPH Group is planning to deploy high-tech vending machines for their customers' convenience. Customers will be able to place their orders online and choose to pick their books up from vending machines that would be placed in strategic locations such as LRT and MRT stations, universities, and hospitals.
On top of that, MPH Group also expects to launch the first social interactive e-learning platform in Southeast Asia in the early second-half of the year. MPH Group hopes that the platform will serve to connect educators and students in a safe environment.
