In Malaysia, there's an unspoken rule: if you see someone ordering squid at Nasi Kandar stall, that's a tell-all indication that he or she is definitely rich liao.
Recently, one famous Nasi Kandar restaurant in Penang, Hameediyah was under fire when one of their customers posted a receipt of their order which amounted to more than RM100 simply for ordering two pieces of fried squid.
The manager of Hameediyah Restaurant, Muhammad Riyaaz Syed Ibrahim, 30 has since come forward to clarify the situation, saying that they've always been transparent with the prices of their food— and that their customers are free to browse through each of their food on the price board hung in their restaurant before choosing.
According to Riyaaz, the customer herself has reached out to him via Whatsapp, saying that she was simply updating stories on Instagram regarding the price. However, somebody else had inserted a different narrative by taking a screenshot of her IG story and setting up a fake recount of the situation.
"However, we are considering making a police report against the individual responsible for this fiasco on the account of possibly tainting the image of our restaurant," he said.
