A young man's attempt to return home by wading across the perilous waters of the Jenob river was met with tragedy today. The victim, believed to be in his early 20's, was en-route to his home at Kampung Buyong via the river before he drowned.

Following reports of his disappearance at 2am, a search and rescue party involving 11 firemen from the Tanah Merah and Jeli stations, several policemen and villagers joined forces to search the victim. His body was later discovered at around 1pm, near the area of the incident.
Prior to that, the victim had reportedly crossed the border and was in Thailand's sub-province- before using one of the illegal jetties located along the said river to make his way back.
