GEORGE TOWN - There was a commotion at tourist hotspot, Medan Renong Food Complex, Padang Kota Lama here when a quarrel between vendors escalated into a fight yesterday.
The incident went viral on social media when visitors to the food court recorded the incident and uploaded 1-minute video on social media.
The video showed a group of men fighting with each other, causing a disturbance to some visitors who were eating.
Meanwhile, Asmadi Mohd Razali, chairman of the Medan Renong Padang Kota Lama Food Complex Hawkers Association, said the incident was not a fight between customers and vendors as alleged on social media.
He said the incident at about 11pm only involved a misunderstanding between the vendors of the food complex.
It stemmed from misunderstandings and personal problems between the two vendors and it was resolved well.
"The incident did not involve property damage and injuries to vendors or customers, it only happened for a short time," he told reporters today.
In the meantime, Asmadi asked the public not to make any speculations that could tarnish the image of the food complex which is the focus of visitors to Penang.
