The month of Ramadhan has started for Malaysian Muslims, and many have adopted the habit of posting pictures of their food on social media before eating.
According to Penang Mufti Wan Salim, it appears that posting pictures of food and beverages on social media before the breaking of fast may be considered sinful and goes against Islamic teachings.
He claims that individuals who do so are deemed to encourage other Muslims to "ponteng puasa" and that is forbidden in Islam.
Every true Muslim, even restaurant owners who are open during Ramadhan should not disregard or underestimate this religious obligation and take fasting seriously.
In order to do this, he encouraged Islamic law enforcement officials in all states to monitor eateries throughout Ramadhan and deal with anyone who serves food and beverages to Muslims who are not fasting.
Moreover, he added that more messages urging Muslims to keep their religious requirements to fast throughout Ramadhan should be shared around.
