Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi stated that the government intends to provide each student with a device to facilitate digital learning.
According to The Star, despite funding limits, he stated that the government would endeavor to implement the plan in stages, with the first phase likely to begin this year.
"The Education Ministry aspires to provide a tablet to each pupil. I feel that this new form of learning through devices is unavoidable, and that tablets should be supplied to students, despite the fact that cost limits are a key consideration.
"We suggest that this be implemented quickly, but in steps. The technology is already in place, as are the instructional methods; the only constraint is the availability of tablets.
"So if it can be done in phases starting this year, I think in the next four to five years, the majority (of students) will have them," he said after officiating the 2024 National Teacher's Day Celebration on Thursday (May 16).
Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek and Pahang's Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail also attended the ceremony.
