Four Foo Chuk (thin dried tofu sheets) factories operating illegally in Nibong Tebal, Penang were fined a total of RM 8,500 yesterday after a raid operation was conducted.

Upon further inspection, the condition of the factories was simply unforgivable— flies hoarding over the food, workers not wearing gloves, stray dogs with skin disease roaming around the operating area freely, and even worse, a dead feline carcass was even found in one of the factories. These factories have been operating next to a former pig farm site, which contributed to their unacceptable and filthy environment.

All of the four factories are given three-week notice to clean up and improve their working area condition and failing to do so will result in a shut down of all factories involved, under Section 11 of Food Act 1983.
