While it's a sad, sad world we live in where we have to teach women to be safe instead of telling men NOT to harass women, it's unfortunately better to be safe than sorry.
Here are five crucial tips to make you feel safer when you're walking alone.
1. The Correct Way Of Holding Your Keys For Self-Defence
Your keys could be a quick weapon to use to your advantage if ever you feel like someone is tailing you, or walking too close to you. Here's the right way to hold your keys if ever (god forbid) it happens to you:

If you find yourself in a dire situation, a pocket alarm will be especially helpful to keep with you at all times. This handy little gadget called Pocket Angel will emit a deafening alarm sound that'd alert your surrounding or scare your harasser into running away.

Burying your face in your smartphone while walking might not be the best idea when you're walking alone. Train yourself to be highly sensitive to your surrounding so you can immediately sense someone is acting weird or trying to possibly harm you.
If that ever happens, activate your pocket alarm or run, as fast as you can to a crowded area.
(Tip: yell "There's a fire!" to instantly get attention. Apparently, that's more effective than yelling "help".)
5. Pretend You're On The Phone

If you're getting into a cab/grab alone, pretend you're on the phone, or actually call someone and ask them to play along. You could pretend to call your partner, tell them how far you are from home, describe what car you're in and the plate number, and every detail about where you are currently.
You're less likely to be a target when your whereabouts are known.
