1)Sansevieria
Origin of Sansevieria is West Africa and it is belonging to the family of Asparagaceae. It is well adapting to tropical climate, survive with a little amount of sunlight and water. Therefore, we just need watering once per week. It could adapt wide range of sunlight intensity. So, it could be placed in any place where could receive some natural sunlight and do not need to bring it out for sun exposure. It is preferring dry condition, no need misting daily like the other houseplants. The only point needs to take note is do not overwatering. Standing water in the pot may cause the root rot and the crinkled of the leaves.
2)Zamioculus zamiifolia (ZZ Plant)
Zamioculus zamiifolia aka ZZ plant native to East Africa lowland forest or dry grass land. It is belonging to the family of Araceae. It could tolerate low light condition up to 80%-90% shade, this characteristic makes the ZZ plant as prefect houseplant choice. It possesses huge tuber roots and allow the plant undergoes drought condition. It is only need to watering once a week, if we place it under low light condition. It is wide adapting to the air humidity from 50%-95%, regular misting is not necessary like the other houseplant. Like the sansevieria, the only point needs to take note is do not overwatering the plants, it will cause the root rot and yellowing of the leaves.
3)Ficus elastica (Indian Rubber Tree)
Ficus elastica aka Indian Rubber Tree native to India, Indochina and belong to family Moraceae. It may grow well under partial sunlight to full sunlight exposure. It is requiring intermediate level of water. So, watering at least once per week, waiting for the top layer of soil dry out before next watering to avoid root rotten. It may grow up to 15m high if not restricted by the size of pot. Therefore, annual pruning is requiring to avoid the plant oversized. It is mildly toxic, and need to keep it out from pets and children who might accidently eaten its leaves.
4)Ficus lyrata (Fiddle Leaved Fig)
Origin of FIcus lyrata is tropical central and western Africa. It is belonging to Moracea family too. Ficus lyrate may adapt partial shade to full sun condition. It is preferring hot and humid condition, but roots cannot tolerate overwater. Therefore, wait for soil dry out before next watering. If the condition is too dry, the brown spot will appear on the leaves.
5)Ficus benjamina
Ficus benjamina native to Asia, Australia and belong to family Moraceae too. All the growing criteria are similar to the Ficus lyrata and Ficus elastica. The only point needs to take note is do not overwatering the plant and do not allow the water standing in the pot. Overwatering may cause roots rotten and de-foliage of Ficus Benjamina. However, if the soil change to a well-draining soil, the new foliage will regrow again.
6) Epipremnum aureum (Pothos Plant /Money plant)
Pothos plant origin of Pacific island and belong to Araceae family. Pothos plants prefer partial shade condition and require high level of water. It prefers high humidity condition and low humidity may cause dried tips of pothos. Therefore, we only need to watering and misting daily may make the plant look healthy and lively. However, if the water standing around roots area may cause leaves browning and root rotten. So, make sure the soil is well draining. We may cut back the leaf right after the leaf nodes to boost the bushy plant.
7)Dracaena surculosa var. maculate (Japanese bamboo/ Gold dust plant)
Dracaena surculosa native to Africa and belong to Asparagaceae family. It prefers semi shade condition, around 65%-70% of shade. It requires intermediate level of water, we need watering one to two times per week only. As long as it is using well-draining soil and make sure the water does not stand in the pot may avoid roots rotten. Dracaena surculosa seldom have other pest and disease problem occurs. All you have to do to keep the plant look attractive is to trim the wilted leaves occasionally and pruning once a year to make sure good air circulation around the plant.
8) Asparagus densiflorus/ Asparagus foxtail fern
Asparagus fern native to South Africa and belong to family of Asparagaceae. It may grow up to 2 meter high. It prefers growing on organically rich and well-drained soil. It could widely adapt different intensity of sunlight. Moderate levels of watering require. So, only need to watering twice a week. It is drought tolerance, but the leaves will become yellowing and de-foliage if underwater seriously. However, new leaves will be growing soon if the watering schedule resumed. Pest and disease problem are seldom happened on this houseplant.
