Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak will file an application to be represented by the Queen's Counsel (QC), the most senior and experienced senior lawyer from the UK, at the final appeal hearing on a 12-year jail sentence and an RM210 million fine for misappropriating SRC International Sdn. Bhd. seven years ago.
This was informed by the Deputy Public Prosecutor, Mohd. Ashrof Adrin Kamarul when contacted by the media after the management of the case, which was conducted via Zoom in front of the Deputy Registrar, Siti Hajar Mustaffa.
According to Najib Razak's lead attorney Tan Sri Shafee, "The defense will write a letter to the Federal Court no later than tomorrow about the intention to apply for the Royal Counsel from the UK to attend and argue on Najib's appeal. The court has decided on January 28th for the next case management to determine the next steps for appeal."
In today's proceedings as well, the Federal Court has set March 15th and 16th for the hearing of Datuk Seri Najib's application to include new evidence in his appeal. The date for the main appeal hearing has yet to be determined, according to Mohd. Ashrof.
Therefore, the prosecution will be set on January 28th for further case management. Looks like Najib Razak is using all his best cards to win the case. Will he succeed in his endeavors? Time shall tell.
