Three individuals, including a former police officer, have been arrested for suspicion of being involved in three armed robbery cases at different premises in the Melaka Tengah district.
The robberies, involved the use of ‘objects resembling guns’. Melaka's Chief of Police, said the arrests came after the owners of a grocery store (Tambak Paya Harmoni), a telecommunications equipment store (Krubang), and a bag store (Telok Mas) sent in reports.
The total losses was an estimated of RM1,150.
He also noted that the group known as 'Geng Bacin,' was led by a 36-year-old painter from the Public Works Department, along with a former police officer and the respective 33-year-old and 38-year-old children of retired police officers.
The suspects' method involved threatening with a black object resembling a pistol before stealing the cash from the sales counter drawer.
"Upon investigation, all suspects were found to have criminal records, including drug-related offenses, and preliminary urine screening tests also came back positive for methamphetamine.
"During the raid, the police also seized several items related to the cases, including an object resembling a pistol, a machete, and a knife, two cars, a motorcycle, four mobile phones of various brands, and clothing.
"All suspects have been remanded for seven days starting today until May 15 to assist in the investigation under Sections 395/397 of the Penal Code for committing armed robbery, which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years' imprisonment and whipping, if convicted," said Melaka’s Chief of Police.
