Malaysia is getting an increasingly severe outbreak of the coronavirus and the number of daily cases continue to surge. The future is definitely uncertain as the government does not seem to have taken any actions of late, causing quite some worry among citizens. A few days ago, Public Health Malaysia rolled out a poll asking if the public thinks a "PKP" or Movement Control Order should be carried out. More than 15,000 people have participated since!
#Should There Be MCO
The poll posted up in a traditional "like/angry" method asked the question "Do you agree that the MCO should be implemented at this time?", with the "like" reaction representing you agree and the "angry" reaction meaning the opposite. Public Health Malaysia even cheekily mentioned that Facebook turned off polling options for them so they couldn't do a proper poll.
#The Results Are In
As of the time of writing, there have been more than 15,000 votes on "agree" with a mere 500 votes on "disagree", that's almost 97% of people saying that we need a Movement Control Order right now! The comments echo the people's decision, with many saying that plenty of people are not adhering to the SOPs during the current controlled movement control order (CMCO) and recovery movement control order (RMCO).
#Many Things To Consider
Of course, it is not easy on the side of the government as they have to consider the economic strength of our country. The previous MCO has worsen a slumping economy and we have only just begun to recover. Another MCO would very likely bring us to another economic standstill, but might be the only way to flatten the curve. Public Health Malaysia's Facebook page admin suggested: "Full Movement Control Order, then targeted plans to open up green zones."
We hope that the government can make the right choice. An announcement will be made on Monday and we hope it is for the best. In the meantime, continue to stay safe, stay clean, and stay healthy.
