Floods wreaked havoc in Ipoh recently, leaving residents grappling with significant damage to their homes and belongings. For some, the recovery process includes minor repairs or replacing damaged items. However, one resident, Datuk Amarudin, faces substantial "emotional damage" as all six of his luxury cars were submerged in the floodwaters.
Among the luxury vehicles damaged were Datuk Amarudins Mercedes, Porsche, Alphard, Volvo, BMW, and Honda. Sharing his distress, he revealed that he initially underestimated the situation as flooding is common in his area.
"When the floodwaters reached my doorstep, I didn't think much of it. But this time, it poured endlessly, and the water rose so fast that it was too late to react. I could only watch as the water submerged my cars it broke my heart," he lamented.
In addition to his vehicles, the lower-floor appliances, including electrical equipment, sofas, and other household items, were severely damaged. While he has not yet calculated the total losses, he admitted they were far more extensive than anticipated.
City hall personnel and approximately 250 residents joined forces to clean up the affected areas. Trucks equipped with high-pressure water jets were deployed to clear public spaces, while eight search boats combed flooded neighborhoods to rescue stranded residents. These efforts, documented in a video by Sin Chew Daily, underscore the widespread impact of the disaster.
Another resident, Mrs. Liao, shared her harrowing experience. She and her husband were away when the flood struck. They received an alarming call from their daughter, who informed them of the rising waters. By the time they returned, the water levels were too high, making it impossible for vehicles to enter the area.
"We lost important documents in the flood. It's heartbreaking to think of what we've lost," Mrs. Liao said.
