A dramatic incident unfolded in Tebrau, Johor, when a Toyota Vios was deliberately set on fire in the middle of the road, forcing four occupants, including the driver, to flee for their lives. The shocking event, captured on video and widely shared on social media, shows the vehicle's hood engulfed in flames as the passengers escape to safety.
According to an official statement by the Chief Police of South Johor district, Raub Selamat, the incident stemmed from a family dispute. Investigations revealed that the perpetrator, a 25-year-old man driving a Toyota Vellfire, was the husband of the 21-year-old Vios owner. Enraged after a domestic argument, he allegedly chased down his wife's car, overtook it, and stopped in the middle of Jalan Tebrau near Columbia Hospital. He then doused the Vios in gasoline and set it ablaze before fleeing the scene.
The incident occurred on the night of February 2 at approximately 10:20 PM. The victim, whose car was completely destroyed in the fire, later lodged a police report at Majidee Police Station at around 1:30 AM. She suffered a financial loss estimated at RM90,000 but, fortunately, neither she nor the three passengers sustained any injuries.
Authorities are currently investigating the case under Section 435 of the Penal Code for mischief by fire. If convicted, the suspect could face up to 14 years in prison and a fine.
