The gastronomic website TasteAtlas has unveiled its list of the top 100 global dishes. Surprisingly, Malaysia's Roti Canai emerges as the dark horse, securing the second position worldwide!
The champion of this culinary race is the Brazilian dish Picanha (Brazilian Barbecue). It is said to be an exquisite and expensive delicacy in Brazil, with a significant price difference between the first and second positions.
TasteAtlas describes Roti Canai as a traditional flatbread made from a mixture of flour, water, eggs, and oil. While originally hailing from India, the dish's recipe and traditional preparation methods were brought to Malaysia by Indian labour immigrants.
On another note, Malaysia stands at an impressive 31st place among the 100 nations participating in the selection of the best cuisines. This is truly a commendable achievement for Malaysia!
The selection process involved a total of 395,205 dish ratings and 115,660 food product ratings. Based on these ratings, the top 50 foods from each cuisine were chosen. Subsequently, combining the average ratings of each country's best dishes and food products, the global cuisines were ranked.
Italy and Japan received the same overall score, but due to the higher ranking of Pizza in the best dishes category, Italy clinched the title of the best cuisine!
So here comes the toughest question to fellow Malaysians: Roti Canai with sugar? Kuah Dal? Or Kuah Ikan?
