A Standard 5 pupil was recently sent to hospital after allegedly being chastised by his teacher for standing in a sunlit field for almost two hours.
His mother, Mogahana, 35, claims the teacher punished the youngster and his classmates by making them stand in the field from 10 a.m. until 12:50 p.m. on 30 April.
"My son disclosed to me that he reported to the teacher about a student hitting him, but the teacher punished my child by asking him to stand in the field."
"My son told the teacher that he felt faint, but the teacher did not pay any attention," she said.
The mother also stated that when she got her son back from school that day, he looked very tired and had no appetite.
"After a while, he asked me to bring him to the hospital and just as we reached, he fainted."
Mogahana stated that her toddler had been confirmed to have heat exhaustion by a medical professional. According to Buletin TV3, Ampang Jaya district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Azam Ismail has also confirmed the diagnosis with the hospital.
The worried mom underlined that she was dissatisfied with the teacher's actions: "I wasn't happy with the actions and explanation given by the teacher, not because I believe my child should not be punished, but because it was too severe and had an impact on my child's health."
She requested that the appropriate authorities and the Ministry of Education investigate this.
Meanwhile, PDRM said that the 37-year-old schoolteacher forced the victim and three of his friends to stand for ten minutes.
The investigation document was submitted to the DPP, and the case is being probed under Section 31(1) of the Child Act of 2001.
Section 31(1) of the Child Act of 2001 refers to an offence for anyone responsible for the care of a child to abandon, neglect or expose the said child to danger so as to cause him/her physical or emotional injury
